How to Fix an Airless Pump Bottle

I have seen many comments and posts here in which people have mentioned this issue with airless pump bottles and how it is difficult to get the product out. So I just wanted to share a hack here. Maybe you know of it and if you don't maybe this will help.

First a little physics lesson. The airless pump bottles have a special mechanism of action. There is a sort of plate like structure inside the bottle at the bottom of the product and as you pump the bottle the air (if any to begin with) from the top part of the bottle moves out and creates a vacuum of sorts, and the pull of the vacuum pulls the contents of the bottle upwards, at the same time the pushing force comes from the air from the environment that enters from the bottom air vent in the bottle, the air pushes the plate which moves upwards getting the product out of the opening at the top.

Now sometimes the plate can get stuck and it doesn't move properly. There could be many reasons for it. Maybe a manufacturing problem, poor material or maybe the product gets stuck in the edges of the circular plate. If the plate won't move, the whole mechanism will stop working ergo the product won't dispense.

So the hack is to move the plate. If you look at the bottom of the bottle you will find a small hole (the aforementioned air vent). Take a pin or a toothpick and push it inside the hole and take it out again. Don't leave the pin or toothpick inside. When you reach the plate you can manoeuvre it a bit and the pump will start working normally again.
